Avril van Der Rheede was born in Jamestown, in the winelands of Stellenbosch in the Western Cape.
He obtained his National Diploma in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying from Cape Peninsula University of Technology in 1996.
Thereafter, he obtained his Baccalaureus Technologies in Construction Management.

He joined Grinaker LTA (later Aveng Grinaker) in 1994 and worked there for six years. In 2000, he joined Vodacom where he fulfilled the role of Property Specialist, tasked with the responsibility of building the network infrastructure for the Western Region. These responsibilities encompassed lease negotiations, permitting of sites via consultants, plan and build AC power lines, build roads, build of the tower and the maintenance thereof.

He resigned from Vodacom in 2011 to become an entrepreneur in the Telecommunication sectors, establishing Eagle Towers SA (ETSA) in 2012, a subsidiary of Eagle Group SA.
Eagle Towers SA is a 100% Broad-Based Black Economic Empowered company, with Level 1 accreditation.
ETSA is a proudly home grown South African company, headquartered in Stellenbosch in the Western Cape, with offices in the Eastern Cape and Gauteng.
